What does Casting A Shadow have to do with snowshoeing?
Nothing really, but it has a lot to do with a groundhog, and
even more to do with how this event is timed and scored.
If the Groundhog DOES see his Shadow?
If the Groundhog DOES NOT see his shadow
If on Groundhogs day the little varmint does see his shadow
thus resulting in six MORE weeks of winter the race is longer.

leaves the start/finish area at 5 hours 59 minutes and 45
seconds the last lap will count towards overall lap
count.seconds the last lap will count towards overall lap count.
If on Groundhogs day the critter does not see his shadow thus
winter being cut short the race will be shorter.

Only laps completed before 8:00pm (six hours after the start) will
count towards the overall lap count.  Meaning if a runner crosses
the start/finish line at 6 hours 0 minutes and 12 seconds that lap
DOES NOT count.  Blame the groundhog not us!
FINISHING ORDER AND TIE BREAKER INFORMATION
Simple..really.  Most laps completed in the six hours wins.
> Only full laps count (see above)
